My IMA capstone is a progression of my last computer mouse project. But instead of making it better, I took to designing a computer mouse that was as useless as possible. Referencing work from the likes of Katerina Kamprani, books like Sara Ahmed's What’s the Use?: On the Uses of Use, and existing products, I sought out to understand the definition of useful in a mundane tool and everyday object by challenging our normal perception of it entirely. Originally a series of five DIY-modified mice, the project grew to ultimately include NINE. From more custom 3D prints to Dremel-made holes, putty, and more hot glue than I would like to admit, this is my love letter not only to hardware, but in taking things into your own hand and making them yours.
